About The Position

The Newaygo County Commission on Aging is seeking a person passionate about helping others to work as a Van Driver. The role transports passengers door-to-door to locations within Newaygo County and to healthcare appointments outside the county. Drivers operate transit vehicles according to published schedules, assist elderly and disabled passengers, and support safe boarding and travel.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least five years of driving experience.
• Must be physically able to move and assist wheelchair patrons on and off vehicles and properly secure wheelchairs.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a Chauffeur License.
• Must submit to a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, prepare vehicle condition information, record passenger donations, and complete required paperwork, including passenger information and accident and incident reports.
• Operate transit vehicles in accordance with published schedules.
• Operate wheelchair lifts and assist with properly securing wheelchair passengers and wheelchairs.
• Assist elderly and disabled passengers, including moving and assisting wheelchair patrons on and off vehicles.
• Maintain order and passenger behavior in a courteous and professional manner.
• Respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and suggestions.
• Remove passengers from the van in the event of an accident or emergency, particularly passengers with disabilities.
