About The Position

The Van Driver operates a school van to transport children over designated routes and performs other assigned work. This is a training position. Van drivers must complete School Bus Training and obtain a Class B license and a School Bus Certificate.

The role includes transporting students and teachers on scheduled routes and field trips, maintaining a clean and safe van, supporting student safety and order, and preparing operational and repair reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of successful driving experience with a demonstrated record of safe driving.
• Valid California Driver’s License, maintained in good standing.
• Complete School Bus Training and obtain a Class B license and a School Bus Certificate.
• Basic first aid; a current First Aid Card is required.
• Knowledge of California DMV laws and regulations.
• Complete pre-screen background clearance and drug testing.

• Native American applicants are preferable.

Responsibilities

• Drive a van over designated routes according to time schedules, including daily and weekend routes.
• Pick up and discharge school children.
• Escort children across streets when necessary.
• Transport children and teachers on field trips to various locations.
• Make departures and arrivals according to schedule.
• Maintain the van in a clean and safe operating condition.
• Maintain good order among students in the vans and at bus stops.
• Follow school policies regarding disciplining children and communicating with parents and other citizens.
• Prepare operational reports and reports of needed van repairs.
