About The Position

This role is responsible for the safe operation of vans and buses for client and employee transportation. Key duties include adhering to traffic laws and safety procedures, picking up and dropping off passengers at designated locations (including medical appointments), and assisting passengers with disabilities. The position requires maintaining vehicle appearance and functionality, ensuring accurate log maintenance, and upholding a clean driving record. Professional interaction with passengers and staff is essential, along with strong communication skills. The role may involve split shifts for full-time status and part-time shifts for non-emergency medical runs. Occasional movement within an office setting is also required.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • At least one year of driving experience.
  • Excellent navigation skills and proficiency in using navigation applications.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical stamina and good upper body strength to transport, move or assist clients with disabilities.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, squat, and push wheelchairs without restriction.
  • Ability to be licensed and or certified as needed.
  • Physical stamina and strong mobility to clean vehicle as needed and assist all passengers as needed.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 80% of the time with approximately 20% of time spent assisting passengers on and off the vehicles.
  • Full time will require 30+ hours worked each week.

Responsibilities

  • Drive safely along designated routes, obeying all traffic laws, safety procedures, and transit regulations.
  • Pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations and medical appointments.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities to get into the van or bus as needed.
  • Follow all appropriate timetables referenced in the BAWAC standard of conduct guidelines.
  • Operate vans, buses, or other vehicles for client employee transportation.
  • Research and plan for traffic, weather, and/or construction.
  • Perform maintenance on assigned vehicles in accordance with vehicle maintenance procedures and submit maintenance slips.
  • Maintain the appearance of the vehicle, both inside and out, including cleaning and enforcing no smoking, eating, or drinking policies.
  • Ensure log contained in vehicle is maintained with all mileage, purpose of trips, gas and oil use.
  • Drive in a safe and responsible manner, being courteous to other drivers and all passengers.
  • Maintain certification and/or licensure as needed.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Occasionally move about inside an office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Maintain a clean driving record from accidents, citations, or other incidents.
  • Notify Transportation Manager immediately of any accidents or citations.
  • Interact and converse professionally with dignity, respect, and proper courtesy.
  • Communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Exchange accurate information sufficiently to transportation coordinator or staff regarding client behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required within the transportation department.
