The Valve Technician is responsible for maintaining and inspecting all functions of water system valves and blowoffs, including those in meter vaults. This role ensures every valve in the ACSA system is accessible, functioning correctly, and properly installed. The technician must be knowledgeable of ACSA specifications for water valve installation to approve warranty work by contractors. Responsibilities include calling in Miss Utility tickets for necessary repairs and work on water valves. The Valve Technician is also responsible for direct reports, training and educating helpers on equipment, parts, and system operations, and planning work for utility workers in their absence. Pre-planning for projects, ensuring equipment, parts, and tools are ready the day before, is crucial. Knowledge of computers, the GIS system, and pipe locating equipment is required. The candidate must be available for emergency incident response on nights, holidays, and weekends, and be able to lead crews on major projects or jobs when the Crew Leader is absent. This includes scheduling and planning daily activities for efficient use of personnel and equipment, overseeing warranty work, and signing off on contractor valve projects. The role involves using Cityworks (and GIS) for work-order generation, inspection documentation, and valve location.
