About The Position

United Manufacturing Hub (UMH) is seeking a Value Engineer to join their team. This role involves deploying and integrating real systems, connecting PLCs, sensors, and data pipelines to improve factory efficiency and reliability. The Value Engineer will also consult customers on generating business value by designing use cases and implementing solutions. A key aspect of the role is shaping the product by providing real-world feedback to enhance UMH's scalability, robustness, and developer-friendliness. Responsibilities include debugging, optimizing, and automating data flows using technologies like MQTT, Kafka (Redpanda), Docker, Benthos, and Grafana, as well as documenting these processes. The role also involves close collaboration with the Product Engineering team for prototyping, testing, and improving the UMH stack.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with OT or IT systems (PLCs, sensors, message brokers, containerized applications, or industrial protocols). Smart home environments count too.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with customers, build trust quickly, and act as a reliable technical advisor.
  • Ability to translate messy customer problems into clean technical solutions.
  • Comfortable being the technical face of a product - part engineer, part consultant, part teacher.
  • Thrives in high-velocity, high-accountability environments.
  • Strong bias for learning and self-reliance.
  • Fluency in German and English.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and integrate real systems, connecting PLCs, sensors, and data pipelines.
  • Consult customers on how to generate business value by designing use cases and implementing solutions.
  • Shape the product by feeding back real-world learnings to make UMH more scalable, robust, and developer-friendly.
  • Debug, optimize, and automate data flows across MQTT, Kafka (Redpanda), Docker, Benthos, and Grafana.
  • Document patterns for others to build on.
  • Work closely with the Product Engineering team to prototype new features, test deployments, and continuously improve the UMH stack.
