About The Position

Coventry, a leader in life settlements, is seeking a UX/UI Product Designer to help design its AI-native platform for consumers and businesses. This role involves owning the design of both internal business operations and consumer user experiences, collaborating closely with product and engineering teams. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on internal tools, first-party interfaces, and front-end UX for external users in the life insurance, annuities, and personal medical data sectors. Coventry is looking for someone who is energized by complex design challenges, comfortable with AI tools, and motivated to foster a design culture that values curiosity, craft, and ownership. The role requires high standards and the flexibility to adapt processes as new tools evolve. This position is based in-office two days a week near Madison Square Garden and reports to the VP of Product. As the first staff designer, the role offers broad scope, significant influence, and opportunities for growth into team leadership. The position will also involve educating stakeholders on Design best practices.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of product design experience.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing shipped B2B and B2C-facing work, including user research, ontological decisions, wireframes, and live products.
  • Deep UX fundamentals: information architecture, interaction design, user flows.
  • Ability to design for users making high-stakes decisions.
  • Strong UI craft in Figma, including typography, visual hierarchy, and spacing.
  • Actively using AI and generative AI tools in design workflow with a clear perspective on their impact beyond speed.
  • Clear communicator capable of presenting and defending design decisions.
  • Ability to take feedback directly and maintain momentum in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Track record of owning projects end-to-end and delivering against milestones.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in life insurance, fintech, healthtech, or high-trust consumer products with complex decision-making.
  • Background in content design, UX writing, or plain language standards in regulated industries.
  • Early-stage startup experience.
  • Familiarity with conversion optimization, funnel analysis, or designing with quantitative user data.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design of core user journeys, including employee tooling and external customer interfaces, producing wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
  • Define and evolve the information architecture and ontology for product surfaces.
  • Establish the design foundation for AI-powered features, focusing on user interaction with intelligent guidance, recommendations, and workflows.
  • Build and maintain a design system to ensure consistency, accessibility, and scalability.
  • Contribute to the product roadmap with user insights and design thinking.
  • Help set the future trajectory of Coventry's workflows and external surfaces.
  • Educate stakeholders on Design best practices.
