About The Position

The Utility Worker position in the Environmental Services Department is a full-time role responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the hospital and its facilities. This includes tasks such as dusting, sanitizing, washing surfaces, cleaning floors, and managing waste and recycling. The role requires adherence to hospital and departmental policies, maintaining cleaning equipment, and ensuring a safe working environment. The Utility Worker also plays a role in quality assurance by documenting cleaning actions and communicating effectively between shifts.

Requirements

  • Ability to read 10th grade level.
  • Valid applicable state driver's license.
  • Ability to operate all cleaning equipment.
  • Cheerful, friendly personality.
  • Caring, helpful attitude.
  • Possess initiative and 'can do' nature.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures and contributes to the overall quality of services. Assumes responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policies and procedures.
  • Maintains building and decks by dusting and sanitizing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures. Washes windows, walls, ceilings, vents and light fixtures. Sweeps, scrubs. Vacuums and shampoos carpet. Cleans elevators and stairwells. Maintains entrances and reports repairs.
  • Removes waste by emptying trash containers, changes sharps containers, transports solid waste to compactors, bales cardboard, and recycles material.
  • Keeps cleaning equipment operational by following operational instructions. Cleans equipment after each use and notifies Supply/Equipment Technician of repairs when needed. Verifies equipment is safe to use.
  • Maintains safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Provides quality services by documenting cleaning actions, noting areas requiring additional care or monitoring, informs Supervisor of incomplete work, communicates between shifts, and meets Departmental Quality Standards.
  • Maintains technical knowledge and ensures cost containment by attending training as scheduled. Reads labels and technical updates, uses chemicals and supplies appropriately, and maintains equipment.
