About The Position
The Utility Worker supports a healthcare kitchen team by keeping kitchen, food preparation, and storage areas clean, safe, and organized. The role helps ensure patients receive nutritious meals in a hygienic environment. It is a full-time, non-exempt position with hours aligned to the facility’s food service schedule. The position is primarily site-based, with occasional travel to other work sites and occasional extended hours, including evenings or weekends, potentially required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Complete all required Whitsons and government-mandated training.
- Willingness to learn and follow detailed sanitation and cleaning procedures.
- Food safety certification required in the jurisdiction of employment.
- Ability to speak and read English sufficiently to understand assignments, follow cleaning procedures, and communicate with the team and management.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Physical stamina to stand and work on one's feet for the majority of the workday.
- Reliability, a strong work ethic, and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Nice To Haves
- Previous kitchen, food service, or janitorial experience.
- Food handling certification.
Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and kitchen equipment.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation areas and surfaces according to established procedures.
- Remove trash and keep storage areas organized and pest-free.
- Assist with food deliveries and stocking supplies.
- Help with basic kitchen tasks as needed.
- Inspect dishes and utensils for cleanliness and monitor soap and water levels.
- Record temperatures accurately.
- Complete assigned cleaning, dishwashing, and organizational tasks on time and to standard.
- Follow schedules, procedures, break assignments, safety requirements, and Whitsons policies.
- Work cooperatively with the food service team and respond positively to requests from the Chef Manager and colleagues.
