About The Position

The Utility Worker position at BRTA is responsible for ensuring all vehicles are fueled, fluids are topped off, and interiors are cleaned according to contract specifications. This role also involves maintaining vehicle emergency equipment, documenting fleet damage, and ensuring the fuel island and shop areas are clean and compliant with OSHA and EPA regulations. The Utility Worker will also assist with landscaping, lot maintenance, posting notices in vehicles, and supporting the maintenance staff and manager as needed. This position requires adherence to safety protocols, including the Road Traffic Safety Management System (RTSMS), and promoting customer focus within the organization.

Requirements

  • Must be over 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have CDL or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods during shift.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior transit utility experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all vehicles are completely fueled, and fluids topped, ready for service.
  • Clean vehicle interiors according to the contract.
  • Ensure vehicle emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, body-fluid kit, first aid kit) is fully stocked and functional.
  • Park vehicles according to the facility parking plan.
  • Document and communicate any fleet damage to the manager.
  • Maintain and keep the fuel island clean, containing and reporting any spills immediately to the manager.
  • Maintain the work area according to all OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Clean, mop, and dispose of trash in the shop area daily.
  • Clean and care for landscaping and the lot as needed.
  • Post notices in vehicles as required by client.
  • Assist maintenance staff and manager as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure that the Road Traffic Safety Management System (RTSMS) conforms to the requirements.
  • Ensure that the RTSMS processes are delivering their intended outputs.
  • Report to management on the performance of the RTSMS and on opportunities for improvement and on the need for change or innovation.
  • Ensure the promotion of customer focus throughout the organization.
  • Ensure the integrity of the RTSMS is maintained, when any changes to RTSMS are planned and implemented.
