About The Position

Under supervision, performs labor in construction, maintenance, operations, and installation of Public Works and Public Utilities. Will perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to read addresses, signs, and directions.
  • Good interpersonal skills: Must be able to work with a wide range of people
  • Demonstrates dependability through good attendance and adheres to timelines and schedules
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and the ability to take initiative in development and completion of projects
  • Must be able to obtain a grade “C” Certificate of competency as mandated by the appropriate agency within one (1) year of employment.
  • Six months experience in using hammer, saw, screwdriver, wrench, shovels, drills, power saw.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Possession of Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory Driving Record
  • Proof of Citizenship and /or eligibility to work in the U.S. legally
  • Physical Examination
  • Drug Screen
  • Background investigation
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds; push, pull and/or drag up to 150 pounds of equipment and /or materials; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, stands, sits, and bends when driving or maintaining equipment; hear and see clearly when working around equipment or in traffic.
  • Works outdoors in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with some exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards while using proper safety precautions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as laborer making water pipe taps, repairs and installation of pipes, hydrants and valves
  • Maintain facility, paint mow, lay brick, and cement; minor building construction work
  • Responsible for minor repairs and maintenance of equipment and vehicle
  • Lifts and carries up to 100 pounds, and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 150 pounds.
  • Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly, wear protective equipment when needed.
  • Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions, keep written records, make reports, communicate with the public and other agencies, strong sense of customer service
  • Count parts and assist in inventory, clean around city facilities, collects samples, repair and post signs, load brush
  • Work in trenches and confined spaces
  • Keep storage areas neat and clean
  • Assists other utility agencies in the field with regards to City facilities and equipment.
