At this time, we have an outstanding career opportunity available, as we're looking for the right person to serve as Lead Water Utility Worker within the Water Production section. The Position Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of the City’s water production systems. Lead Water Utility Worker is an advanced journey-level position within the Water Production job series, responsible for coordinating and assigning the daily activities of other crew members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • Three (3) years' experience in the maintenance, repair, and construction of water systems. This may include work on industrial engines and pumps used in water production and flood control systems.
  • Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license with HAZMAT endorsement and an acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and throughout employment.
  • Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator Certificate and Grade 3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs various components of the water production system, including overhauling, repairing, and maintaining large industrial engines, drive lines, pumps and related equipment, electrical systems, motors, control systems, booster stations, and sensing devices; responds to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis, depending on assignment
  • Maintains files on scheduled maintenance or repair work to be performed and records of all work completed
  • Assists the Crew Leader/Supervisor in the planning and scheduling of overall work projects
  • Assigns work to employees in crew; trains employees in work assignments and safe work practices; ensures adherence to project schedules
  • Responsible for traffic control, proper safety procedures and reading and interpreting water atlas and record drawings
  • Reports to work as scheduled; maintains a regular and consistent attendance record; may work a variety of schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Supports and actively promotes the City’s safety programs; performs periodic safety inspections; identifies and corrects safety hazards
  • Attends professional training to stay abreast of industry best practices
  • Travels to offsite locations within and outside the City
  • Performs other related duties as required
