About The Position

Rainbow Municipal Water District is seeking a Utility Worker to join their Construction Department and help maintain the infrastructure customers depend on. This recruitment is for new positions to build and train an in-house Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Construction Crew. This team will focus on proactively replacing aging pipelines, valves, and other critical infrastructure before failures occur. The role involves responding to water main breaks, service line leaks, and other emergencies, as well as building new infrastructure. The District is open to hiring at multiple levels based on qualifications and experience. Water Distribution certifications, a Class A CDL, or welding certification may qualify for a higher-level appointment and higher pay. This is a hands-on career where you can work outdoors, build infrastructure, and make a visible impact in the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in construction, pipelines, roads, utilities, or a similar field of work.
  • Enjoy working outdoors and don't mind getting your boots dirty.
  • Like hands-on, physically active work that keeps essential services running.
  • Take pride in solving problems in the field and seeing the results of your work.
  • Work well as part of a team and are willing to step up when the community needs you.
  • Are comfortable with overtime, emergency call-outs, and on-call duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Have experience in construction, utilities, pipelines, public works, landscaping, or a related field and are looking for a stable career with opportunities to grow.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework toward an A.A. degree in Water Distribution or a related field.
  • Water Distribution Operator D1 Certificate (required within 6 months of hire).
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tanker endorsements.
  • AWS D1.1 Welding Certification.
  • Experience operating construction equipment such as backhoes or excavators.
  • Landscaping, pipeline welding, or GIS experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and replace water system parts including pipes, valves, hydrants, regulators, air vacs, and pressure controls.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, trenchers, tampers, and jackhammers.
  • Prepare job sites for work and clean them up afterward.
  • Maintain the shop and tools.
  • Manage traffic around work zones to ensure safety.
  • Backfill trenches, patch roads, and perform asphalt and concrete repairs.
  • Perform pipeline repairs and maintain equipment using welding skills.
  • Respond to water main breaks, service line leaks, and other emergencies.
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with a crew.
