About The Position

The Utility Operator position is responsible for conveying raw material supplies and assisting with the set-up of machinery to ensure efficient manufacturing of quality products that meet or exceed expectations. This role involves observing safety procedures, managing raw materials, preparing materials for production, performing quality checks, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The position also includes secondary responsibilities such as assisting with changeovers, cleaning equipment, and emptying trash.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate in English to follow instructions, complete required forms, verify quality products, and address issues/concerns.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, push/pull, lift, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times throughout a 12-hour shift.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to work safely around moving mechanical parts.
  • No fear of heights (equivalent to a 4-5 story building).
  • Must have good vision, eye-hand coordination, and hearing.
  • Must have manual dexterity involving total wrist action, twisting, pulling, and raising arms at, above, or below shoulder height.
  • Able to work in warm, humid, and cool climates during the shift and/or including overtime.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles/face shield, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, and bump cap.

Nice To Haves

  • Extrusion experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Pull color concentrates and place them behind assigned extruder line(s).
  • Return all concentrates, boxes, or cradles to racks or designated storage areas.
  • Maintain segregation and combine gaylords or concentrates as needed.
  • Create boxes on Pack-size equipment (loading material, selecting box size(s), gluing, and staging based on requests).
  • Glue Regular Slotted Containers (RSC's).
  • Stage materials for extruders and packaging.
  • Remove finished product in a safe and timely manner, replacing needed materials for continuous operation (e.g., pallets, packaging, resins).
  • Help relieve for breaks.
  • Perform quality checks every two (2) hours.
  • Cut cores using Traveler/BOM provided and/or as instructed.
  • Replenish core racks and skids.
  • Sort and eliminate all short cores.
  • Print and create labels per Ignition/MES.
  • Secure all skids of scrap and remove from the production area, organizing for reclaim into the re-pelletizing process.
  • Keep the scrap area neat and organized, with colored, chunks, scrap resin, and natural scrap segregated.
  • Help with core strip changeovers and scrap off cores when help is needed.
  • Document any maintenance and safety concerns.
  • Perform other related functions, projects, and duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Help assist with changeovers.
  • Help clean around extruders and blenders.
  • Empty trash barrels as needed.
  • Ensure the ink room is in proper order.
  • Perform all duties of Packer/Inspector II as/when needed.
