About The Position

To support the Production or Packaging portion of the Pet Food business. This role involves filling in for absent employees, operating necessary equipment, recording production data, performing sanitation duties, and participating actively in team-based work and continuous improvement initiatives. The Utility Operator is expected to understand and support the company's operating systems and contribute to overall business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.
  • A highly responsive ability to react to daily production priorities in a calm and focused manner.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Background in manufacturing.
  • Safety glasses, steel toed shoes, Ear Plugs, Hair Net.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to obtain and maintain company issued forklift license.

Responsibilities

  • Fills in for employees during breaks and any type of absence while maintaining the continuing quality of the plant operation.
  • Fully operates all necessary equipment in the assigned area.
  • Record downtime, can loss, lot #’s, record temperature, and any other report documentation.
  • Ensures all areas are cleaned to standard.
  • Performs weekly sanitation.
  • Participates as a member of the Team.
  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
