About The Position

City of Springfield is seeking applicants for Utility Operator I. This position is within the Office of Public Utilities, Division of Supervisor - Material Handling. The work location is CWLP DALLMAN SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, 62701 United States. This position requires shift work and the starting rate is $30.4261/hour. It is open to all applicants and is part of the IAMAW F&O union. The final date to apply is 8/5/2026 at 5:59 PM.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Operational knowledge and experience at a power plant station or industrial process with heavy equipment experience preferred.
Applicants will be trained in HAZMAT certification and must be able to wear a respirator.
Must remain in compliance with the Facial Hair Policy.
Must be able to work in adverse conditions and dusty environments.
This position is subject to rotating shifts including 7:00am-3:00pm, 3:00pm-11:00pm and 11:00pm-7:00am with weekends and holidays.
Shifts can be changed with a six (6) hour notice.
This position requires shift work.
Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
To be eligible to apply, current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.

Responsibilities

Relieve FGDS WWTP Operators and Material Handling Operators as required at Dallman Generating Station or other areas as required.
Keep operational log and performs hourly readings as directed.
Assist in keeping assigned work areas clean and safe.
Work with Buildings and Grounds and Maintenance crews as plant needs require.
Report all unfavorable conditions in writing to the Supervisor of Generation and or designated Supervisor.
