Utility Locator (Mercer, WI)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and protect underground infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This is a full-time employee position serving the Mercer, Wisconsin area. The role requires working independently in an assigned territory, in all weather conditions, and participating in an on-call rotation. Locators must maintain company equipment and vehicles and communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Willingness to travel.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with utility maps, as-built drawings, GIS data, electronic locating equipment, and multiple locating methods.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
