Utility Locator (Iron River, WI)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect utility infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This role involves working independently in an assigned territory, maintaining accurate and reliable locating results, and communicating with excavators, property owners, and team members. The position requires work in all weather conditions, upkeep of company equipment and vehicles, and participation in an on-call rotation. The listed pay range is $18.00–$30.00 per hour, with pay from door to door.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Self-motivation and ability to work independently.
- Accuracy, safety, effective communication, and a team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Work independently in an assigned work area.
