About The Position

Stake Center Locating is hiring entry-level Locate Technicians to locate underground utilities, troubleshoot, and mark the ground using paint and flags to help prevent damage in the community. The company provides 100% paid on-the-job training and the equipment and skills needed for the role. Technicians work outdoors in all weather, independently, and use problem-solving skills to complete locating work accurately and efficiently.

The position pays $21.00 per hour. Employees receive a late-model company vehicle and fuel card; the vehicle is taken home nightly and is for company use only. The role requires a flexible schedule based on ticket and production loads, including some evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and emergency calls during scheduled on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Hold a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
• Be able to walk up to 5 miles per day, 2–3 times a week.
• Be able to carry up to 5 pounds of electronic locating equipment for extended periods.
• Be able to lift objects up to 25 pounds, or lift objects over 75 pounds with tool aids.
• Pass pre-employment background and drug screenings.
• Prefer working outdoors in all weather.
• Be able to work independently and solve problems with speed and accuracy.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, and participate in scheduled on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety.
• Use a laptop to receive, document, and process tickets and email.
• Read maps and interpret blueprints to determine the best locating method and sequence.
• Use provided locating equipment and technology to accurately locate underground utilities.
• Communicate effectively with peers, managers, and homeowners.
• Respond to emergency calls during scheduled on-call shift rotations.
