About The Position

Stake Center Locating is hiring entry-level Locate Technicians to locate underground utilities, troubleshoot, and mark the ground with paint and flags to help prevent damage in the community. The company provides on-the-job training and equipment, including 100% paid training. Technicians use locating equipment and technology, interpret maps and blueprints, and communicate with peers, managers, and homeowners. The position requires working outdoors in varying weather and independently solving problems with speed and accuracy. Employees may respond to emergency calls during scheduled on-call rotations.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to walk up to 5 miles a day, 2–3 times a week.
• Ability to carry up to 5 pounds of electronic locating equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds, or lift more than 75 pounds with tool aids.
• Pass pre-employment background and drug screening.
• Preference for working outdoors in all weather, working independently, and solving problems quickly and accurately.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays as ticket or production load requires.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety while performing locating work.
• Use a laptop to receive, document, and process tickets and email.
• Read maps and interpret blueprints to determine the best method and sequence for locating utilities.
• Use provided locating equipment and technology to accurately locate underground utilities.
• Mark utility locations on the ground using paint and flags.
• Troubleshoot and help prevent damage to underground utilities.
• Communicate effectively with peers, managers, and homeowners.
• Respond to emergency calls during scheduled on-call shift rotations.
