Utility Locator (Spooner, WI)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator for its Spooner, Wisconsin location. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. This full-time employee role involves locating underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws, using advanced equipment and multiple locating methods, and documenting work through a mobile app. The position requires working independently, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, communicating with excavators, property owners, and coworkers, and participating in an on-call rotation. Candidates must be willing to work in all weather conditions, travel, work overtime, and maintain flexible schedules. The listed pay range is $18.00–$30.00 per hour, with pay from door to door.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Accurately mark utilities using paint and flags.
- Document work using a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
