About The Position

Northern Lights Locating and Inspection, Inc. is hiring full-time Utility Locators to locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets and applicable 811 dig laws. Locators use utility maps, as-built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and pipe and electronic locating equipment. They mark underground utility locations with flags and/or paint, take photographs for each ticket, and use a cell phone-based application to record marks and complete required documentation. The role also involves preparing reports, forms, and memos; documenting work and problems encountered or resolved; and investigating and preparing detailed written documentation when excavations damage underground utilities. Locators may run their assigned area independently, with a support system available. The position includes an on-call rotation, travel of 75% or more, varying schedules, and overtime. Employees must be able to work in all weather conditions and maintain provided equipment and vehicles.

Requirements

Know best locating practices, procedures, and 811 law.
Read and interpret utility maps and as-built civil engineering drawings.
Locate underground utilities using multiple methods.
Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Maintain small- to medium-sized equipment and trucks.
Complete paperwork and documentation.
Communicate effectively and use interpersonal skills to exchange information and receive work direction.
Demonstrate attention to detail.
Be able to work in all weather conditions.
Be willing to travel 75% or more.
Have troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Pass a drug screen.
Have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain DOT physical certification.
Be available to work varying schedules and overtime.
Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Maintain a tobacco-free vehicle.

Maintain provided equipment and vehicles in clean, good operating condition.
Participate in an on-call rotation and work varying schedules and overtime.
