About The Position

ELM Utility Services is hiring a Utility Locate Technician in the Kent, Ohio area. Technicians help protect underground gas, electric, and communication systems from damage during excavation by accurately marking utility locations. The work is performed independently outdoors, using a company-provided vehicle as a mobile office and the LaunchPoint software system to receive and manage daily tasks. Starting wages are $23.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on experience.

This is a safety-sensitive DOT position subject to Federal Department of Transportation regulations. Marijuana use, whether medical or recreational, is prohibited. The role requires participation in an on-call rotation and overtime as needed, potentially including nights and weekends.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Record check, and background check.
• Ability to distinguish colors and read and understand written and verbal communication and instructions in English.
• Ability to comply with Federal Department of Transportation regulations for a safety-sensitive DOT position; marijuana use is prohibited.

Responsibilities

• Complete a daily route of utility locate requests while working independently outdoors.
• Accurately, safely, and efficiently locate and mark underground utilities using marking paint, flags, and sometimes whiskers.
• Use the mobile work system to receive daily tasks.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime as needed, including nights and weekends when necessary.
