About The Position

Under the direction of the Utility Billing Supervisor, this role assists with billing and collections, account maintenance/set-up, new meter requests, scanning, and customer inquiries related to all utility accounts (water, garbage, and stormwater) with great attention to detail. This position also handles all cash receipting for the city.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years' experience in customer service required.
  • 2+ years' experience in computer keyboard/data entry and ten-key by touch required.
  • 2+ years' experience working in a billing department, preferably in a government utility billing department is required for level 2.
  • Advanced skills in ten-key required.
  • Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test, background and driving record screening, and provide employment verification with form I-9.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years' experience working in a billing department, preferably in a government utility billing department is preferred for level 1.
  • 2+ years' experience in office-related work, accounts management or other related experience preferred.
  • Tyler (ERP) experience preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process and maintain all aspects of customer accounts; new accounts, terminations, meters, garbage, service, and any other requirements dealing with a customer account.
  • Balance daily transactions.
  • Prepare and process daily bank deposits.
  • Accept, enter, and validate payments for the city.
  • Process billing information, including researching, correcting, and communicating errors.
  • Answer incoming calls about customer accounts, including assessments from title companies, billing questions, and other general customer service issues.
  • Scan all customer accounts.
  • Rent hydrant meters.
  • Assist with loading and unloading handheld meter reading equipment.
  • Assist with month-end processing.
  • Assist customers at the counter.
  • Act as a cashier for the city.
  • Maintain all aspects of the dumpster program.
  • Audit, maintain and track secondary non-users.
  • Audit, maintain and track senior resident rates for those qualifying for the low-income circuit breaker program.
  • Back up for utility billing supervisor when needed.
  • Serve as backup to other departments, as needed.
  • Any other responsibilities that would be required to maintain effective operations of the department.
