About The Position

The Utilities Worker I performs entry-level water and wastewater work for the Allegany County Department of Public Works, Utilities Division, under the general supervision of the Area Supervisor. Duties include general construction, utility pipeline and water treatment plant work, driving a dump truck, and occasionally operating a water/wastewater treatment plant. Performance is evaluated through observation, with corrections made on the spot.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Some experience operating and maintaining machinery and equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Eligibility for coverage under the County’s motor vehicle insurance policy.
• Ability to pass the prescribed physical for the position.
• Introductory knowledge of water/wastewater treatment plant operations, including procedures for performing laboratory tests.
• Working knowledge of dump truck operation and applicable safety and road rules.
• Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the work.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions, follow safety rules and precautions, and operate necessary equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Courses toward completion of Water/Wastewater Certification.
• Class B CDL preferred.

Responsibilities
