About The Position

Elk Grove Village is seeking a Maintenance Worker for its Public Works Department. This union position is primarily assigned to the Sewer Activity and works under the general supervision of a Public Works Foreman. The role performs operation, maintenance, and repair activities for Village infrastructure, with work across sewer and water operational areas and assistance in other activities as directed. The position supports the Village’s Inflow and Infiltration program through sewer inspections, flushing, and repairs; maintains water infrastructure; operates trucks and equipment; and helps with Village special events. It also responds to emergencies such as sewer clogs and water main breaks and participates in snow and ice control, including 24/7 winter operations. Emergency overtime and alternating weekend standby assignments are required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Working knowledge and experience in Public Works activities.
Skill in operating power tools and equipment.
Effective communication skills.
Willingness to work overtime and respond to off-hours emergencies.
Valid Illinois Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker and air brake endorsements, or ability to obtain them within six months of employment.
Ability to perform physically demanding semi-skilled manual labor and operate various light- and heavy-duty equipment.

Responsibilities

Conduct sanitary and storm sewer CCTV inspections, flushing, and repairs to support the Village’s Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) program.
Perform repairs and maintenance on water mains, valves, and hydrants.
Enter and update asset inventory, maintenance, and repair information in the Village’s asset management software.
Operate heavy trucks and equipment to repair and maintain Village infrastructure.
Assist with setup, teardown, and cleanup of Village special events.
Perform snow plowing and salt spreading as part of winter operations.
Assist in other Public Works activities as directed.
Respond to emergency overtime situations, including sewer clogs and water main breaks.
