About The Position

Elk Grove Village is seeking a Maintenance Worker for its Public Works Department. This union position is under the general supervision of a Public Works Foreman and will primarily be assigned to the Sewer Activity, while also assisting in other activities as directed. The role performs operation, maintenance, and repair work on Village infrastructure, principally in sewer and water operations, to support the community. Duties may include responding to sewer clogs, water main breaks, and other emergencies, as well as assisting with snow and ice control. The position requires physically demanding, semi-skilled manual labor and operation of light- and heavy-duty equipment. Candidates must be willing to work overtime and respond to off-hours emergencies.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Working knowledge and experience in Public Works activities.
Skill in operating power tools and equipment.
Effective communication skills.
Willingness to work overtime and respond to off-hours emergencies.
Valid Illinois Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker and air brake endorsements, or ability to obtain them within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

Conduct sanitary and storm sewer CCTV inspections, flushing, and repairs in support of the Village’s Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) program.
Perform repairs and maintenance on water mains, valves, and hydrants.
Enter and update asset inventory, maintenance, and repair records in the Village’s asset management software.
Operate heavy trucks and equipment to repair and maintain Village infrastructure.
Assist with setup, teardown, and cleanup for Village special events.
Perform snow plowing and salt spreading as part of 24/7 winter operations.
Assist in other Public Works activities as directed.
Respond to emergency overtime situations, including sewer clogs and water main breaks.
