About The Position

The Utilities Operator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of plant utilities, including boilers and compressors. This role requires a strong understanding of plant safety rules, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and a proactive approach to improving operations. The operator will handle emergency situations, perform maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment. Flexibility in working assigned shifts, including potential seven-day work weeks and holidays, is essential. The position involves working with ammonia equipment, water treatment chemicals, and in various environmental conditions, including confined spaces and elevated heights.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed FTO or be able to obtain a license within two weeks.
  • Frequent bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), turning, twisting, and squatting are required, as well as climbing ladders and able to work from elevated heights safely.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Will be required to work on and around ammonia equipment and be comfortable working with a safe amount of ammonia smell.
  • Will be required to work with water treatment chemicals.
  • Must possess good trouble shooting and reasoning skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Will be required to work in all temperatures and in severe situations.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified (company provided training).
  • Will be required to follow all Birds Eye Foods policies and procedures.
  • Mechanical and basic maintenance experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess Specialist class B Boiler license.
  • Possess compressor room level 1 SOP training or Operator 1 training/cert from outside company.
  • Must pass Respirator Medical Evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Must be familiar with plant safety rules and guidelines.
  • Must have a positive attitude, work well with a team, and have initiative in improving company operations.
  • Work with Maintenance Manager/Supervisor and Lead to implement changes that have been identified.
  • Work effectively with other departments.
  • Must be flexible and able to work shifts as assigned.
  • May be required to work up to seven days per week at times, with some Holiday work.
  • Effectively handles emergency situations requiring the use of plant equipment.
  • Performs periodic safety checks.
  • Provides maintenance on boilers, compressors, tunnels and/or other areas of the plant.
  • Operate and Troubleshoot NH3-Ammonia Boilers and Compressors.
  • Will be required to operate and maintain plant fire suppression system and attend required training associated with fire suppression.
  • Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by Maintenance Manager/Supervisor or Lead.
