About The Position

Under general direction of the Collection and Distribution Manager, performs a variety of tasks to support the utilities department in maintaining the warehouse and inventory, ordering materials and supplies, receiving and distributing materials and supplies. This role involves issuing materials and parts, cleaning and repairing tools, distributing purchased items, ordering and maintaining inventory, receiving and examining items, maintaining a computerized inventory system, ordering special materials, loading and unloading materials, maintaining warehouse facilities, keeping accurate records, conducting on-site inspections of contractor materials, assisting meter services, and potentially delivering materials to field locations. The position also assists in daily operations such as exercising valves, conducting distribution flushing, performing fire hydrant maintenance, and testing hydrant meters. Minor department vehicle duties may also be performed. The role requires promoting health and safety and embodying District Core Values.

Requirements

  • Basic math and reading skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a computerized inventory system.
  • Skill in using common tools, equipment, and materials of the trade.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
  • Ability to operate various pieces of equipment for loading and unloading purposes.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado class “R” driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete continuing education/training unit courses required to maintain certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Colorado Class 1 Water Distribution certification and/or Class 1 Collection certification, or ability to obtain the certifications within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Issues materials and parts to staff and contractors, ensuring their return if necessary.
  • Cleans and repairs used tools such as shovels, hammers, and ratchets.
  • Distributes purchased items to customers.
  • Orders materials and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Determines quantities of items required and places orders in a timely manner.
  • Ensures proper materials are purchased and issued to work crews.
  • Receives and examines items for conformance with specifications and reports discrepancies.
  • Maintains a computerized inventory system, making additions, changes, and deletions.
  • Ensures correct account codes are entered for ordered items.
  • Orders special materials or parts for repairs as requested.
  • Loads and unloads materials and parts on trucks and trailers using various industrial equipment.
  • Maintains warehouse facilities and equipment, ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintains accurate records regarding warehouse operations.
  • Conducts on-site inspections of contractors’ materials to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Assists meter services by issuing and reading meters in warehouse stock.
  • May deliver materials and parts to field locations.
  • Assists in daily operations such as exercising valves, conducting distribution flushing, performing fire hydrant maintenance, and testing hydrant meters.
  • Performs minor department vehicle duties to District standards, including proper documentation.
  • Promotes health and safety in the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
