The Utilities & Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting facility utility systems and ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the plant grounds. This role plays a critical part in supporting food safety standards, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency. The hours for this position are from 6 pm - 6:30 am.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1–3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, utilities, or facilities work (food manufacturing preferred)
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with industrial utility systems
  • Ability to read gauges, meters, and technical manuals
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and climbing
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Comfortable working around machinery and utility systems

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training or certification (HVAC, boiler operation, etc.) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, operate, and maintain facility utility systems including boilers, compressed air systems, and water systems (potable, wastewater, and process water).
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on utility equipment.
  • Monitor gauges, meters, and control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving utility system failures or inefficiencies.
  • Maintain logs and documentation for system performance and compliance.
  • Maintain facility grounds including mowing, trimming, snow removal, and landscaping.
  • Ensure parking lots, walkways, and exterior areas are clean, safe, and hazard-free.
  • Perform general building maintenance including minor repairs, painting, and upkeep.
  • Support waste management processes, including dumpster and recycling area maintenance.
  • Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP, and food safety protocols.
  • Ensure utilities systems meet sanitation and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of utility areas and mechanical spaces.
  • Report any conditions that could impact food safety or quality.
  • Adhere to all plant safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues.
  • Assist in environmental compliance, including wastewater and emissions monitoring.
  • Properly handle and store chemicals and maintenance supplies.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Assist other maintenance staff as needed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support production downtime activities when required.
