The Utilities & Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting facility utility systems and ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the plant grounds. This role plays a critical part in supporting food safety standards, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency. The hours for this position are from 6 pm - 6:30 am.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
1–3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, utilities, or facilities work (food manufacturing preferred)
Basic mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with industrial utility systems
Ability to read gauges, meters, and technical manuals
Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Frequent walking, standing, bending, and climbing
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Comfortable working around machinery and utility systems

Nice To Haves

Technical training or certification (HVAC, boiler operation, etc.) preferred

Responsibilities

Monitor, operate, and maintain facility utility systems including boilers, compressed air systems, and water systems (potable, wastewater, and process water).
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on utility equipment.
Monitor gauges, meters, and control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Assist with troubleshooting and resolving utility system failures or inefficiencies.
Maintain logs and documentation for system performance and compliance.
Maintain facility grounds including mowing, trimming, snow removal, and landscaping.
Ensure parking lots, walkways, and exterior areas are clean, safe, and hazard-free.
Perform general building maintenance including minor repairs, painting, and upkeep.
Support waste management processes, including dumpster and recycling area maintenance.
Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP, and food safety protocols.
Ensure utilities systems meet sanitation and regulatory standards.
Maintain cleanliness of utility areas and mechanical spaces.
Report any conditions that could impact food safety or quality.
Adhere to all plant safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues.
Assist in environmental compliance, including wastewater and emissions monitoring.
Properly handle and store chemicals and maintenance supplies.
Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.
Assist other maintenance staff as needed.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Support production downtime activities when required.
