About The Position

The role of Utilities Backflow Inspector III performs technical work with administrative responsibility for the preservation and integrity of the County's utility system. This role involves responsible inspection work in quality control of utility projects to assure compliance with FAC, County ordinances, and the County Cross-Connection Control Policy under the enforcement of County-approved construction drawings. Pasco County provides a career path for advancement from a Utilities Backflow Inspector III to a Utilities Backflow Inspector II, then a Utilities Backflow Inspector I when certifications, license, experience, and performance requirements and expectations are met.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • One (1) year of direct experience in water, wastewater, reclaimed water, or plumbing field maintenance required.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Must possess Backflow Tester Certification and Backflow Repair Certification.
  • Must have the following: Confined Space Certification, Trenching and Shoring Certification, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Intermediate certificate, FEMA ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 700, ICS 800 (NIMS), and First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and push or pull heavy objects.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, and sitting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of backflow or cross connection experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilities code enforcement related to ensuring compliance with county and state standards for backflow protection for all Pasco County Utilities residential and commercial customers.
  • Interacts with Utility Inspectors, customers, and contractor representatives to assess and correct any backflow assemblies not in compliance.
  • Inspects, evaluates, installs, tests, and repairs backflow prevention assemblies.
  • Installs, removes, and relocates temporary hydrant and jumper meters.
  • Investigate, remove, and mitigate any existing and/or potential potable water cross-connections with the County's water system.
  • Performs inspections on new construction to ensure proper metering service is installed and prevent stealing of County water.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and push or pull heavy objects.
  • Performs other related work as necessary.
