About The Position

The Used Vehicle Painter is responsible for preparing, refinishing, and restoring the exterior appearance of pre-owned vehicles to dealership quality standards. This position performs surface preparation, color matching, painting, and finishing work to ensure vehicles are retail-ready while maintaining productivity, safety, and quality expectations.

Requirements

  • Previous automotive painting experience required.
  • Experience in vehicle refinishing and color matching.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate spray equipment and paint booth systems.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive paint systems and refinishing techniques.
  • Excellent color matching and blending abilities.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on producing high-quality finishes.
  • Ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work in a paint booth and shop environment with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other required safety equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • I-CAR or ASE Collision Repair certifications preferred.
  • 2+ years of automotive painting experience.
  • Experience in dealership or high-volume vehicle reconditioning operations.
  • Familiarity with waterborne and solvent-based paint systems.
  • Experience using computerized paint mixing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicle surfaces for paint by sanding, masking, priming, and cleaning.
  • Mix and match paint colors to manufacturer specifications.
  • Apply primers, base coats, clear coats, and specialty finishes using spray equipment.
  • Blend adjacent panels to achieve seamless color transitions.
  • Buff, polish, and finish painted surfaces to remove imperfections.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure color accuracy, finish quality, and overall appearance.
  • Perform minor bodywork and surface repairs as needed before painting.
  • Maintain paint booth, spray guns, and related equipment in proper working condition.
  • Follow all manufacturer paint procedures and dealership quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used and completed repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, OSHA, and hazardous material handling regulations.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Collaborate with body technicians, estimators, and management to meet production deadlines.
