The Financial Times is seeking an energetic, versatile journalist based in New York to cover the business of sports and the consumer brands connected to it. The role focuses on sports as a growing asset class and on the corporate, financial and investment activity surrounding the industry. The correspondent will break corporate and investment stories, write profiles and analysis, and report on dealmaking, wealthy investors, and the links between sports and technology, media, consumer businesses and betting. Coverage will also examine US sports’ efforts to attract global investment and expand internationally, as well as equipment, clothing and luxury brands associated with sports. Although some live-event coverage is expected, the beat is fundamentally corporate and financial. The correspondent will work collaboratively with the sports team in London, the deals and corporate finance team in New York, and the global media team. They will contribute to the Scoreboard and Due Diligence newsletters and work with FT Live on events related to the business of sports. The position includes weekend shifts as part of a team rota. Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite at least three days per week, subject to role requirements and regular review; flexible working requests may be considered, though not all patterns are suitable for editorial roles.
