About The Position

The US Customs Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing internal controls in the USA and supporting Mexico in customs-related matters. This role involves monitoring and designing material and transactional flows to ensure duty and tax efficiency, and ensuring internal compliance with customs procedures across various departments. The specialist will also analyze product information for origination qualification, issue certificates of origin, determine HTSUS classification, and ensure timely USMCA qualification. Additionally, they will perform country of origin analysis, manage third-party trade compliance, respond to broker and customer requests, and develop/maintain internal control procedures for all customs activities. The role also involves assisting with the design of international goods transactions to comply with trade regulations and agreements, and optimizing material and transactional flows for duty and tax efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or closely related field.
  • Minimum 4 years customs related experience.
  • Experience with Mexico / USA operations (Maquilidora setup, IMMEX, Etc)
  • Minimum five years’ experience working for a manufacturing supplier preferably automotive.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office & SAP.

  • Strong preference for a US – Licensed customs broker

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and implementing internal control in the USA and support Mexico in this matter.
  • Monitor and design material and transactional flows to ensure duty and tax efficiency
  • Ensuring internal compliance with customs procedures amongst various departments: purchasing, logistics, accounting and compliance.
  • Support, train and align with Purem’s customs department in Mexico
  • Analyze product information including bills of material for qualification of origination per US Customs requirements, issue compliant certificate of origin and determine HTSUS classification for products.
  • Ensure timely USMCA qualification.
  • Perform country of origin analysis for exported/imported goods.
  • Ensure parts and products are classified appropriately.
  • Maintain customs records and documentation according to regulatory requirements.
  • Manage third party trade compliance activities and relationships.
  • Timely response to brokers and customers’ requests for documentation.
  • Develop, document, maintain and ensure execution of internal control procedures related to all customs activity.
  • Assist with making sure international goods transactions are designed and executed in compliance with applicable international trade regulation and in compliance with specific trade agreements when necessary
  • Assist with the design of material and transactional flows to ensure duty and tax efficiency
