About The Position

Ark Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care is seeking experienced veterinarians to join their urgent care team in Henrietta, New York. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys managing urgent and borderline emergency cases but wishes to avoid overnight ER shifts. The position requires confidence in performing surgery and dentistry, and the ability to manage a fast-paced, diverse caseload including dogs, cats, and exotic pets. The hospital offers both full-time and part-time opportunities with flexible scheduling options. As an Urgent Care Veterinarian, you will provide same-day care for sick and injured pets, handling diagnostics, stabilization, and treatment. The caseload includes urgent and borderline emergency presentations, such as acute gastrointestinal conditions, dermatologic flares, musculoskeletal injuries, urinary and ocular concerns, respiratory distress, wounds, toxin exposures, and foreign bodies. Urgent surgical procedures like wound repair and abscess drainage, as well as dentistry, are part of the role. Many patients can be stabilized and treated on-site. While experience with exotic pets is welcomed, it is not required, and the team can support doctors interested in expanding their knowledge in this area. The hospital utilizes an appointment-based model, averaging approximately 12 visits per veterinarian per day, with a mix of 15% wellness and 85% urgent care cases. There are no overnight shifts, and clients must call ahead for appointments. Once the hospital reaches capacity, additional cases are handled at the doctor's discretion or with medical director support. A typical full-time schedule involves 36-40 hours over three or four days, with long breaks included. Doctors generally see patients for 7-9 hours per shift, with additional time for charting and callbacks. Evening coverage is provided, but no overnight shifts are required. Weekend availability is expected, ideally two weekends per month. Doctors are not expected to work past their scheduled shifts, and shifts can be grouped for commuting convenience. Requirements

DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree
Valid New York veterinary license or ability to obtain one
Prior clinical experience in general practice, urgent care, or emergency medicine
Confidence performing routine and urgent surgical procedures
Dentistry experience
Ability to manage urgent and borderline emergency cases
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient care

Responsibilities

Provide same-day care for sick and injured pets requiring prompt medical attention, diagnostics, stabilization, and treatment.
Manage urgent and borderline emergency cases, including acute gastrointestinal conditions, dermatologic flares, musculoskeletal injuries, urinary and ocular concerns, respiratory distress, wounds, toxin exposures, and foreign bodies.
Perform urgent surgical procedures, including wound repair, abscess drainage, and foreign-body removal.
Perform dentistry when needed.
Stabilize and treat patients on-site without requiring transfer to an emergency hospital.
Expand knowledge of reptiles, birds, and pocket pets if interested.
Manage a caseload within an appointment-based model, averaging approximately 12 visits per veterinarian per day.
Handle approximately 15% wellness and 85% urgent care cases.
Work evening coverage shifts.
Provide weekend availability, ideally two weekends per month.
Collaborate with a team of licensed veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and client service representatives.
Work with an experienced Medical Director focused on clinical excellence and professional development.
