About The Position

Ark Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care is seeking experienced veterinarians to join their urgent care team. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys managing urgent and borderline emergency cases but wishes to avoid overnight ER shifts. The position requires confidence in performing surgery and dentistry, and comfort managing a fast-paced, diverse caseload including dogs, cats, and exotic pets. The hospital offers flexibility for both full-time and part-time candidates. As an Urgent Care Veterinarian, you will provide same-day care for sick and injured pets, including diagnostics, stabilization, and treatment. The caseload includes urgent and borderline emergency presentations without the requirement of overnight shifts. Cases may involve acute gastrointestinal conditions, dermatologic flares, musculoskeletal injuries, urinary and ocular concerns, respiratory distress, wounds, lacerations, abscesses, pain management, toxin exposures, foreign bodies, and other non-life-threatening emergencies. Urgent surgical procedures like wound repair, abscess drainage, and foreign-body removal, as well as dentistry, will be performed. Many patients can be stabilized and treated on-site. While experience with exotic pets is welcomed, it is not required, and the team can support doctors interested in expanding their knowledge of reptiles, birds, and pocket pets. The hospital utilizes an appointment-based model, providing a steady caseload with an average of approximately 12 visits per veterinarian per day. The patient mix includes dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and pocket pets, with approximately 15% wellness and 85% urgent care cases. Clients must call ahead for urgent care appointments. Once the hospital is fully booked, additional cases are handled at the doctor's discretion or with medical director support. A typical full-time schedule is 36-40 hours over three or four days per week, with options for three 12-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts. Each shift includes a 2-hour lunch and a 1-hour dinner break. Doctors typically see patients for 7-9 hours per shift, with additional time for charting and callbacks. Evening coverage is provided, but no overnight shifts are required. Weekend availability is necessary, ideally two weekends per month, with Saturday through Tuesday coverage being particularly helpful. Shifts may be grouped to accommodate commuting doctors. Work-life balance is valued, and schedule adjustments can be discussed. Part-time opportunities are also available with flexible scheduling. The hospital is led by Medical Director Dr. Tiffany Kwiatkowski, who has over 15 years of experience in general practice, surgery, emergency and critical care, and preventive medicine. Requirements

DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree
Valid New York veterinary license or ability to obtain one
Prior clinical experience in general practice, urgent care, or emergency medicine
Confidence performing routine and urgent surgical procedures
Dentistry experience
Ability to manage urgent and borderline emergency cases
Strong communication skills
Collaborative approach to patient care

Responsibilities
