About The Position

PetMedic Urgent Care Vet Clinic is hiring a full-time Urgent Care Veterinarian in Edgewater, Maryland. The veterinarian will provide urgent medical care primarily to dogs and cats in a fast-paced setting with a defined case scope, experienced doctor collaboration, strong support staff, and access to emergency transfer support for critical cases. The clinic offers flexibility in clinical decision-making and case flow, modern technology, educational training, and workflow support designed to help doctors leave on time. Surgery is optional; stabilized patients may receive emergency soft-tissue surgery, with mentorship available for doctors who wish to develop surgical skills. The clinic’s typical cases include gastrointestinal issues, lethargy, limping, minor injuries, allergic reactions, skin and ear infections, bite wounds, abscesses, wounds, lacerations, urinary or constipation issues, coughing and sneezing, and quality-of-life assessments. Preventative wellness visits, dentistry, vaccinations, ICU-level case management, and overnight hospitalization are outside the clinic’s usual scope. Critical patients are stabilized and transferred when appropriate. The veterinarian will work alongside an experienced emergency veterinarian and an emergency-trained support team. Support staff monitor schedules for potentially life-threatening cases, handle incoming calls and client communication, and triage concerns, escalating matters to the doctor when appropriate. The clinic also supports externships for veterinary students, technicians, and high school students interested in veterinary careers. The full-time schedule rotates over two weeks: Week 1 is Wednesday–Thursday, followed by five days off; Week 2 is Monday–Tuesday and Friday–Sunday. Weekday shifts are 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; weekend shifts are 10 a.m.–7 p.m. There are no overnight shifts or on-call duties. The facility includes a modern digital EMR and optional, customizable CoVet AI; an IDEXX in-house laboratory suite and pharmacy; six exam rooms, including a comfort room and a separate entrance for contagious or fractious patients; shared space with CVCA cardiology; a surgical suite; digital radiology and ultrasound; and Bluetooth telemetry and advanced monitoring.
