About The Position

This is a student employee position assisting the Urban REAP Program Coordinator with managing the Compost Program, Gardens, and Garden Center. The role requires eligibility for FEDERAL WORK-STUDY and reliable transportation as it is off-campus employment. The position offers flexible working hours and is expected to last for the Fall semester and ongoing.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for FEDERAL WORK-STUDY.
  • Reliable transportation is important.
  • Background in Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology, Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, or similar is preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical skills, such as composting, plant science and gardening, integrated pest management, organic practices, and soil science.
  • Experience with educational programming, including developing and implementing curriculum and planning and executing community events.
  • Experience with computer systems management, such as Drive, Square, Outlook, and online databases.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills with a variety of individuals and settings (e.g. store front, education, tours).
  • Project management, punctuality, responsibility, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining the inventory & display of items in the Garden Center.
  • Greet and assist visitors with their questions and requests during open hours.
  • Manage the Compost Club, including managing subscribers and processing buckets.
  • Spearhead outreach to recruit more members for the Compost Bucket Subscription Program.
  • Maintain the 3-bin compost system for educational purposes.
  • Plan, plant, and maintain Demo Gardens onsite for education and production.
  • Cultivate new plants from seed & propagations for Demo Gardens & Garden Center.
  • Collaborate with the Education Team to ensure signage around compost and gardens is accurate and engaging.
  • Take photos to add to the photo library.
  • Create social media posts that educate & advertise Urban REAP to the general public.
  • Assist with volunteer management by leading volunteers in compost- & garden-related tasks.
  • Assist with other tasks and projects as needed for Urban REAP operations.
