About The Position

The Urban Forestry Part Time Worker assists the Urban Forestry Supervisor with tree and shrub care, related equipment, tree projects, and JCPRD nursery operations. The role includes grounds maintenance and field work in outdoor natural areas typical of Northeast Kansas, using appropriate safety gear and following safety protocols.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have an interest in natural resource management.
• Possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record, verified through a background check.
• Be able to work outdoors and tolerate the climate and conditions of natural areas typical to Northeast Kansas.
• Complete required reference and background screening.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced coursework in natural resource management or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Mow, string trim, mulch, and perform other grounds maintenance.
• Operate equipment and trucks as trained, assigned, and licensed.
• Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
• Assist with tree removals, pruning, and debris disposal.
• Safely use tools and equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, and chainsaws.
• Inspect tools and equipment and perform repairs and maintenance when required.
• Use appropriate gear and observe safety protocols.
• Extract and dispose of invasive plants.
• Plant and water new and young trees.
• Assist with JCPRD nursery operations.
