Charlotte Country Day School seeks an Upper School English Teacher to be responsible for collaboratively designing curriculum, teaching English, and creating a dynamic learning environment for students. We are interested in candidates who are excited to work with and support high-school aged students, have experience with multi-level and differentiated instruction, and demonstrate a commitment to student-centered learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or post-graduate work in English or English Education.
  • Significant experience teaching English, preferably to high-school students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of instructional technology and its integration into curriculum design and classroom practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Placement / International Baccalaureate (AP/IB) experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching a course load of four sections of English (various levels) in the Upper School.
  • Collaborating with teachers and colleagues in the development, evaluation, and revision of Upper School language curriculum, materials, and programs.
  • Attending professional meetings, educational conferences, and faculty training workshops to maintain and improve professional practice.
  • Serving as an advisor to a cohort of Upper School students.
  • Being a leader in the school’s co-curricular program in meaningful ways outside of the classroom through activities such as coaching and club advising.
  • Other duties as assigned, including attending regular faculty meetings, professional learning days, and additional student-related supervision responsibilities.
