About The Position

SUMMARY The Upper School Modern and Classical Languages program requires all students to enroll in four consecutive semesters of Chinese, Latin, or Spanish starting in 9th grade and to complete through level three of that language. For this position, the school seeks an outstanding Spanish educator with expertise teaching Spanish in any levels we offer, from Spanish I to our post-AP Honors Spanish Literature course. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required. RESPONSIBILITIES Teach Spanish to Upper School students, ranging from level one through AP Spanish Language and Culture or post-AP Honors Spanish Literature, depending on the needs of the department. Vary instructional techniques, assign a variety of homework tasks, and provide traditional, non-traditional, and project-based learning opportunities to accommodate a variety of learning styles. Mentor eleven to thirteen students as part of a comprehensive grade-level Advisory team. Partner with the student, family, administration, and the Academic Resource Center to support students with learning differences or those experiencing challenges. Organize and curate on-line classroom material for effective in-class instruction.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Spanish
  • Prior experience teaching in introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels of Spanish
  • At least three years of experience in an independent school environment teaching Upper School Spanish.
  • Have a desire to be part of a community that values difference and actively engages with it.
