About The Position

The Upper School Assistant Director advances Bentley’s mission by collaborating with school leadership to cultivate a positive learning environment. This role manages the student experience, day-to-day operations, curriculum development, faculty support, and family relationships. Serving on the Upper School Leadership Team, the Assistant Director creates a mission-aligned vision for student leadership and ensures the school remains innovative and relevant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Willing to undergo both Livescan background check, TB screening and successful completion of background checks and compliance with California SB 848

  • Experience guiding parents and guardians on sensitive student-related matters, such as identifying the need for learning evaluations, behavioral restorative processes, and the middle school transition process

Responsibilities

  • Partners with department chairs to define academic goals, review course syllabi, and maintain the Upper School Curriculum Guide to ensure a relevant and innovative program.
  • Oversees academic performance expectations and ensures institutional compliance with UC/CSU (A-G), College Board (AP), and NCAA requirements.
  • Oversee the student lifecycle as it pertains to academics, including placement testing, course scheduling, the Add/Drop process, and end-of-term assessments.
  • Directs experiential learning initiatives, including the Mini-term program, field trip approvals, and co-curricular student activities.
  • Serves as an instructional coach by observing faculty, providing feedback, and sharing best practices in modern teaching and learning strategies.
  • Working with the Dean of Teaching and Learning, designs and implements professional development workshops, orientation programs for new faculty, and the formal faculty mentorship program.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and the Upper School Director on faculty recruitment, hiring, and the ongoing evaluation of teaching staff.
  • Guides the Academic Chairs Committee (ACC) and supports department heads in resource management and curriculum alignment.
  • Leads a multi-disciplinary team (Class Deans, Learning Support, and Counseling) to monitor student progress, wellness, and social-emotional goals.
  • Provides high-level counseling to students and families regarding academic pathways, transfer credits, and graduation requirements.
  • Oversees the implementation of student behavioral policies, manages disciplinary restorative processes, and leads Academic Integrity initiatives.
  • Partners with specialists to ensure best practices for neurodivergent learners and manages academic accommodations.
  • Serves on the Upper School Leadership Team to assist in day-to-day operations, budget management, and the execution of the school’s strategic vision.
  • Serves as a key member of the Admissions Committee, reviewing applications and representing the division at recruitment and retention events.
  • Cultivates strong relationships with parents/guardians and the Bentley Parent Association (BPA) through transparent communication and educational programming.
  • Cultivates an environment of mutual respect and shared belonging among faculty and students to strengthen the overall School community.
