About The Position

This position involves learning and performing upholstery tasks. The trainee will use various tools and techniques to assemble and finish upholstered furniture frames. Key responsibilities include moving frames, attaching filler materials and fabric, ensuring proper fit and appearance, and performing finishing touches like tufting and trimming.

Requirements

• Ability to operate a transfer cart.
• Proficiency with pneumatic staple guns.
• Skill in using scissors for cutting.
• Ability to use a regulator (ice pick) for smoothing and tucking.
• Experience with button needles for tufting.
• Competence in using a box cutter (razor blade) for trimming.
• Ability to operate a rubber mallet.
• Physical ability to pull and stretch fabric/leather.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform assigned duties.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in upholstery.
• Familiarity with furniture assembly.

Responsibilities

• Use transfer cart to move assembled frames from conveyor to upholstery lift.
• Operate a pneumatically powered scissor lift using a foot pedal.
• Attach filler material (foam) to the frame using a pneumatic staple gun.
• Cut excessive filler material from the frame using scissors.
• Attach fabric/leather to the frame using a pneumatic staple gun, stretching and pulling the material for a proper fit.
• Smooth and tuck seams using a regulator (ice pick) for a crisp finish.
• For tufted frames, use a button needle to attach buttons and twine, pull tight, tie off, and staple to the back of the frame.
• Trim excessive fabric around finished wood portions of the frame with a box cutter (razor blade).
• Attach plygrip to the edges of the frame using a pneumatic staple gun and use the regulator to tuck fabric.
• Push tack band through fabric edges, roll once, and attach to the frame using a rubber mallet.
• Rarely lift frames off the assembly conveyor for repairs.
• Use transfer cart to move frames back onto the conveyor and push them down the line.
• Perform other duties and special or non-routine assignments as instructed.
