About The Position

HF Custom (formerly Sam Moore Furniture), a division of Hooker Furnishings Corporation, is seeking a dependable individual with great attention to detail to join our upholstery team as a trainee in our Bedford, VA plant. This role involves learning to finish the outside of upholstered furniture pieces, ensuring a clean and professional appearance. The trainee will learn to turn and move furniture on platforms to place fabric and leather properly, use a hammering motion to apply material to furniture frames, read diagrams and apply materials using proper measurements, and practice using staple guns and basic hand tools. The goal is to ensure tight, wrinkle-free fabric application with clean lines and angles. Requirements

  • Must be able to perform physical tasks such as standing 8–9 hours a day
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to learn how to use basic hand tools, staple guns, and upholstery equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Desire to produce high-quality work

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to finish the outside of upholstered furniture pieces, ensuring a clean and professional appearance
  • Learn to turn and move furniture on platforms to place fabric and leather properly
  • Train on how to use a hammering motion to apply material to furniture frames
  • Begin learning how to read diagrams and apply materials using proper measurements
  • Practice using staple guns and basic hand tools such as a pneumatic screwdriver, mallet, scissors, utility knife, and hot melt glue gun
  • Ensure tight, wrinkle-free fabric application with clean lines and angles
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
