About The Position

Fall Clerkship with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Immigration Law Project. MMLA is seeking a law student intern for the fall semester. This is a hybrid position. Most work will be conducted remotely using MMLA-issued laptops and accounts. In-person work will take place at our downtown Minneapolis office and may also occur at community partner locations. This is an excellent opportunity for students who want to gain practical legal experience while giving back to their communities. MMLA provides all clerks with robust training and practical learning opportunities to help build their skills. We are genuinely committed to diversity. Requirements

  • Current Law School Year 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls are welcome to apply.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles.
  • Work, volunteer, or lived experience with diverse economic, social, rural, and/or cultural communities.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in the legal subject area of the MMLA unit to which the clerk is applying.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest work.
  • Fluency in one or more additional languages is highly valued. Please highlight this skill in your application.

Responsibilities

  • Complete onboarding and training.
  • Assist with intake and case management.
  • Manage a small caseload of assigned matters.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Draft legal pleadings and other documents.
  • Assist with unit-specific projects.
  • If appropriate cases are available, assist with litigation.
