Sheriff's Unmanned Aerial Specialist (County Promotional)
About The Position
The Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Unmanned Aerial Specialists to provide aerial intelligence support to the Real-Time Information Center (RTIC). Essential duties include deploying and operating drones to provide aerial observation during critical incidents, searches, and law enforcement operations supported by the RTIC; monitoring drone operations and ensuring aerial video feeds are integrated into the RTIC operation environment to support situational awareness for field personnel; and conducting pre-flight planning, airspace coordination, and safety checks to ensure drone operations comply with applicable FAA regulations and department policies. The official job title is Specialized Enforcement Specialist.
Requirements
- Current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, or Special Districts employee holding a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or intern position.
- County employment must be clearly listed in the work experience section of the application.
- Former extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or interns are eligible to apply up to six (6) months from the end of their assignment.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony.
- Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a medical, drug, and fingerprint check, and a polygraph examination.
- Must be available to work all shifts, including rotating shifts that may include weekends and holidays, and may be required to assist after normal duty hours in emergency situations.
- A valid California Class C Driver License is required.
- Must maintain mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance.
- Two (2) years of full-time equivalent work experience which involved providing support functions for sworn law enforcement personnel in the following areas: evidence collection, storage and security; assisting with investigations; equipment inventory, maintenance, storage, and transportation; and contacting and coordinating services with internal and external agencies/departments.
Nice To Haves
- An FAA Part 107 certificate.
- Experience using Evidence.com and the Property and Evidence Tracking System (PETS).
- A thorough understanding of the chain of custody.
