University Student Teacher Supervisors USTS Remote (Staff Wage)
About The Position
The Teacher Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the School of Education and Human Development is seeking University Student Teacher Supervisors (USTS) with extensive teaching or supervision experience to provide online supervision and support to practicum and internship students in our online ESL and Special Education teacher licensure programs in their clinical placements located in public schools in Virginia and across the country. The successful applicant will facilitate meetings with mentor teacher/student teacher pairs, conduct in-person and video observation cycles with student teachers (3 cycles for practicum students; 5 cycles for student teachers), and communicate students' progress to the Teacher Education faculty and staff. All observations utilize a web-based video observation tool to provide targeted feedback to students. Applicants must be comfortable learning and using new technologies. Applicants should be comfortable with frequent email, text, and Zoom check-ins with their students, as well as the use of learning assessment and management systems. Proficiency with a range of technology platforms is also required. Supervisors will be expected to learn and utilize the web-based observation tool. Applicants must have high-speed internet access and personal tablets or computers with video streaming capability, experience using learning/assessment management programs, and be able to respond to email or text inquiries within 24 hours. USTS may also be asked to provide additional coaching and support to the students if needed. Applicants should expect to communicate regularly with the academic program coordinators and seminar instructors of their students, as well as the Teacher Education Office. All initial meetings, initial observations, and final evaluation meetings are held virtually with other meetings held on Zoom. Applicants must be available to attend a virtual half day training day in the summer and attend virtual follow-up meetings during the year.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- At least three years of full-time experience teaching PreK-12 students in public schools
- Knowledge of current best practices in education
- A current or previously held professional teaching license
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable learning and using new technologies
- Comfortable with frequent email, text, and Zoom check-ins with students
- Experience using learning/assessment management programs
- High-speed internet access
- Personal tablets or computers with video streaming capability
Nice To Haves
- Master's degree
- A master's degree in education
- Five or more years of teaching experience
- Previous experience mentoring student teachers
- Experience working with novice teachers
Responsibilities

- This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.
