Johns Hopkins Public Safety is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and customer service-oriented individual for the position of University Special Police Sergeant. This role involves supervising public safety staff and contract security, enforcing departmental rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and evaluating subordinate performance. The Sergeant will also be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing staff, coordinating scheduling with the Lieutenant, and assisting in the recommendation of new equipment. Key duties include maintaining security devices, conducting daily briefings, developing preventative measures, troubleshooting problems, providing crime prevention training, conducting drills, maintaining training records, monitoring time and attendance, resolving minor complaints, conducting security walkthroughs, monitoring CCTV and alarm systems, supervising special events, investigating incidents, ensuring proper notifications, maintaining key and badge controls, documenting incidents, reviewing administrative forms, investigating criminal offenses, arresting based on probable cause, presenting cases to prosecutorial bodies, testifying in court, liaising with law enforcement, and performing other duties as needed. The position requires working flexible shifts, unscheduled overtime, holidays, and weekends.
