University Mental Health Counselor - Part Time

About The Position

This is a part-time, benefits-eligible, 30-hour-per-week position during the academic year, with summers off. The role offers the opportunity to use clinical gifts to provide thoughtful, compassionate care within a community where faith and clinical excellence work together. The Mental Health Counselor will provide high-quality individual mental health counseling/psychotherapy to students, offer relational counseling, ensure clinical integrity through documentation, manage a caseload, participate in team meetings and university events, provide psycho-educational training, serve as a consultative partner, and participate in professional development. The position also involves providing clinical or administrative guidance to counseling interns when supervisory staff are unavailable. The university emphasizes a Christ-centered approach and expects employees to align with its mission and values.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree is required in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a closely related field.
  • Must be Licensed (or license-eligible) as an LMFT or LPCC in the State of Minnesota.
  • 1+ years of experience in adult mental health counseling.
  • A heart for the Gospel and a desire to work within a Christ-centered community, adhering to Bethel’s Affirmation of Faith and Community Covenant.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the 16–25 age demographic is preferred.
  • Experience in a university setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality individual mental health counseling/psychotherapy to a diverse student body within Bethel University and Bethel Seminary.
  • Offer relational counseling to help students build healthy, thriving connections.
  • Integrate clinical experience with a compassionate understanding of the student experience.
  • Ensure clinical integrity through timely, accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Effectively manage a caseload to ensure every student receives consistent and attentive care.
  • Actively participate in weekly staff meetings, supervision, and university-wide gatherings, including Chapel, to stay connected to the heart of the campus.
  • Provide psycho-educational training for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Serve as a consultative partner during Bethel Care Team meetings, and represent counseling services on university committees, as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain credentials consistent with the position.
  • Provide clinical or administrative guidance to counseling interns when the director and supervisory staff are unavailable.
