About The Position

Lindley Counseling provides clinical services to support the mental health and wellbeing of undergraduate and law students. In addition to clinical work, counselors contribute to outreach, education, and training initiatives that promote wellbeing across the campus community. Counselors work in collaboration with campus partners including Lindley Health, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, and select student organizations. Lindley Counseling values a collaborative team culture, ongoing learning, and professional growth. Regular training and professional development opportunities are provided throughout the year for the team, and dedicated time is provided to advance individual professional interests. The center is committed to maintaining a sustainable clinical workload that allows counselors to provide high-quality care while also participating in outreach, consultation, and professional development. This is a 10-month position, reflecting Lindley Counseling’s commitment to work–life balance, with two months off during the summer. Requirements

• A master’s degree in counseling or clinical social work is required, with at least two years of pertinent clinical experience.
• Appropriate licensure/license eligible in Virginia (LPC/LCSW or Clinical Psychologist).
• Knowledge and experience in developmental experiences and stressors of emerging adults are essential.
• Excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
• Must possess the ability to work effectively as a team member within the organizational structure of the Lindley Counseling, Student Affairs, and the University community.

Nice To Haves

• Experience preferred in a higher education environment in one or more of the following areas: addressing the psychological and developmental needs of emerging adults; providing clinical support for students presenting with substance misuse and/or examining their relationship to substances; providing clinical support for students presenting with eating disorders and eating disordered behavior; utilizing brief, solution-focused, or time-limited counseling given the structure of an academic calendar; and facilitating groups for diverse audiences.
• Doctoral degree in clinical psychology, and appropriate licensure/license eligible in Virginia (LPC/LCSW or Clinical Psychologist).
• Candidates not yet licensed in Virginia are eligible for hire as University Counselor with promotion to University Counselor II upon licensure.

Responsibilities

• Provides individual and group counseling to undergraduate and law students presenting with a wide range of mental health and developmental concerns.
• Assesses risk and collaborate with students to develop safety plans and connect them with appropriate resources and supports.
• Participates in departmental initiatives, university committees, and campus efforts that support student wellbeing and the mission of Lindley Counseling
• Attends and actively participates in weekly clinical team meetings focused on case consultation, care coordination, and shared professional learning.
• Maintains ethical and professional standards of practice, including timely documentation in the electronic health record (Titanium), adherence to confidentiality and privacy regulations, risk assessment and crisis management, and ongoing professional development.
• For clinicians working toward independent licensure, participates in required weekly clinical supervision until licensure requirements are met.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
