About The Position

The Universal Banker I provides customer service and banking transaction support at First Mid. The role aims to build personalized customer relationships, understand customer needs, and offer customized solutions while following the bank’s core values and service standards. The position supports accurate transaction processing, account opening and maintenance, branch operations, customer education, and referrals to appropriate business lines. Advancement is based on management discretion.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications.
• Successfully complete required compliance and First Mid training curriculum to become proficient in the basic account-opening process.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of customer service and cash-handling experience and/or previous experience working in a financial institution preferred.
• Previous sales experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create a quality service experience by resolving customer needs promptly and supporting overall customer satisfaction.
• Greet customers and make them feel welcome in accordance with company service standards.
• Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently within policy guidelines, including deposits, withdrawals, payments, check cashing, and cashier’s checks.
• Seek manager assistance for suspicious transactions and obtain management approval for transactions outside authorized limits.
• Follow bank compliance, security, and operational policies and procedures.
• Maintain and balance a cash drawer and assist with daily branch operations.
• Open customer accounts, including checking, savings, safe deposit box, and basic business-related accounts.
• Make requested changes to existing customer accounts.
• Identify process improvements that could improve the customer experience and communicate ideas to branch management.
• Allow safe deposit box holders entry when applicable.
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct and protect customer confidentiality.
• Participate in bank promotions, community events, and promotional activities as needed.
• Work at other First Mid Banking centers as required.
• Complete other assigned duties.
• Develop and maintain relationships with business partners and customers.
• Educate and encourage customers to use alternate delivery systems, including ATMs, debit cards, online banking, and mobile banking.
• Maintain knowledge of banking products through training, branch meetings, and corporate communications.
• Identify cross-selling opportunities and refer customers to appropriate business lines.
• Consistently meet or exceed established position goals.
